Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most complex but favored poker games. It's a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once invisible game, has grown in acceptance so quickly.

Omaha 8 or better begins like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to each player. A round of wagering follows in which gamblers can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are dealt out, this is referred to as the flop. A further round of betting ensues. After all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, another card is revealed on the turn. a further sequence of betting ensues and then the river card is revealed. The gamblers will have to put together the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where some players often get flustered. Unlike Texas Hold 'Em, in which the board can make up everyone's hand, in Omaha hi/low the player has to use precisely three cards on the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. Not a single card more, no less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the strongest possible hand out of every player's, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the very same concept in almost all poker games.

The lower hand is more complex, but certainly opens up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don't count. A low hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there's no low hand presented, the high hand wins the complete pot.

While it seems complex at the outset, after a couple of hands you will be agile enough to pick up on the fundamental nuances of play easily enough. Seeing as you have players betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are being used at once, Omaha/8 offers an overwhelming range of wagering choices and seeing that you have numerous players trying for the high hand, and many shooting for the low.
