Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn everything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental feedback from others destroy his goal of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable love for poker. He states that he's learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
