Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most complicated but favored poker variations. It's a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once invisible game, has grown in popularity so quickly.

Omaha 8 or better starts like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to each player. A sequence of betting follows where gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. Another sequence of betting happens. After all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, a further card is flipped on the turn. a further round of wagering ensues and then the river card is revealed. The players will have to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a number of players get flustered. Unlike Holdem, where the board can be every player's hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player has to utilize precisely three cards from the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It's the best hand out of everyone's, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the very same notion in almost all poker games.

A low hand is more complicated, but really opens up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don't count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there's no low hand available, the high hand wins the whole pot.

It may seem difficult at the start, after a few hands you will be able to pick up on the base subtleties of the game easily enough. Seeing as you have players betting for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better provides an amazing collection of wagering choices and seeing that you have many individuals shooting for the high hand, along with many shooting for the low hand. If you love a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it's not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha 8 or better.
