Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player in the world by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover whatever he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental comments from other people destroy his dream of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil started playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. He says that he's picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
