Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor in the world by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover every little thing he could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn't let the adverse comments from others annihilate his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

Phil began playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn't a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
