Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn everything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative feedback from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.

He began playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an undying love for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his success. He admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
