Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complex but favored poker variations. It's a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible variation, has increased in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha/8 starts exactly like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to each player. A sequence of betting ensues where players can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. One more round of betting happens. After all the players have either called or folded, another card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of wagering happens at which point the river card is flipped. The gamblers will need to put together the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a few players can get baffled. Unlike Holdem, where the board can make up every player's hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player must utilize precisely 3 cards from the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the best possible hand out of everyone's, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It's the very same approach in almost all poker games.

The lower hand is more complicated, but certainly free's up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that might be put together, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand.
